A lockdown at New Brunswick Community College in Moncton has been lifted.

RCMP said reports of a gunman seen near the New Brunswick Community College Thursday morning was unfounded in a news release.

Police said they searched the school and the surrounding area.

The college went into lockdown around 8:30 a.m. AT. It was lifted an hour and a half later.

One student was under his desk hiding, his mother told Global News.

A representative of the college says the safety of the students is a top priority.
