CAWSTON — The Lower Similkameen Indian Band anticipates recovering more ancestral remains in an Cawston orchard
On February 29, an excavator unearthed two human skulls, which were determined to be ancient.

“We all want to make sure everything is being dealt with in a delicate way and handled properly,” said Chief Keith Crow of the Lower Similkameen Indian Band.
The band says since the initial collection began, the number and size of remains lead it to believe there are at minimum of five individuals buried on the site, ranging from adult to infancy.
The band has applied for a Heritage Conservation Act permit, which is a requirement for any land alterations or soil removal to take place. Under the permit, an Archaeological Impact Assessment would also be completed.
