A fire ban was put in effect at 10 a.m. Friday for an area along the south side of Calgary’s city limits, adding to a number of burn bans in Southern Alberta.
The Foothills Fire Department issued the ban for the Municipal District of Foothill and the Village of Longview due to extreme dry conditions and strong winds in the region.
“This ban will be in effect until all areas… receive substantial moisture,” fire officials said in a press release.

The ban is on all open fires including in burn barrels. Fireworks are also prohibited.
Contained fires on industrial sites must be approved by the fire chief.
The M.D. of Foothills is now one among four counties and municipal districts with fire bans in place.
About 60,000 people live in the M.D. of Foothills.
