Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay raises more than $900,000 - image

After 24 hours of running and walking around Central Park in Burnaby, participants in the Money Mart Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay raised $918,740.

Organizers said almost 70 teams made up of about 20 or more runners, ran from 10 a.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. Sunday.

Their efforts will send more than 950 children with disabilities on one-week camps around the province this summer.

The top fundraising team for 2012 was Acklands Grainger with $25,397 raised. The other top fundraising teams were:

#2 Eco Video Hybrid with $23,180 raised

#3 Club On Top with $20,837 raised

#4 KPL with $19,410 raised

#5 KKBL Happy Campers with $14,301 raised

“The Society’s is deeply touched by the heartwarming support of the thousands of runners and walkers, who participated in this year’s Relay and their generous donors,” said Stephen Miller, president and CEO of the B.C. Lions Society for Children with Disabilities Easter Seals BC/Yukon.

The Money Mart Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay is a project of the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities whose mandate is to provide programs and services for B.C.’s families with children with special needs. This summer the Society will also operate two Young Adult Camps for adults 19 to 25 years old.
