WATCH ABOVE: The warm winter in Southern Alberta have more people enjoying the mountains, but you need to be cautious. As Tony Tighe reports, bears have started coming out of hibernation – Mar 10, 2016

People aren’t the only ones heading out to the backcountry with this warm weather.

Wildlife officers have confirmed that black bears have been spotted in Canmore, Kananaskis and Waterton Parks.

They have had their receivers on to listen for the bears with radio collars. Along with the black bears, one grizzly has been noticed outside of Waterton.

“Bears travel around in a lot of different places. Once it’s bear season, bears could be anywhere,” said John Packowski with Alberta Wildlife.

Packowski suggests keeping that in mind when you are out skiing or doing anything in the backcountry.

Safety tips include carrying pepper spray, making lots of noise, and keeping your dogs on a leash.
