Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Regina, tornado warning for Saskatoon

REGINA – A tornado warning has been issued for Saskatoon and surrounding regions and residents are warned to be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions.

Environment Canada is warning of the potential for large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain as a storm system pushes its way into central Saskatchewan Friday afternoon.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for the Regina area late Friday morning and is expected to remain in effect until at least late Friday afternoon.

The strong upper-level disturbance is moving eastward from Alberta and forecasters warn that the system could spawn funnel clouds or landspout tornadoes in central areas, with hail and strong winds the main threats in areas to the south and east.
