‘Walk in her Shoes’ challenge kicks off at Calgary Zoo

CALGARY – The ‘Walk in her Shoes’ fundraiser to help women and girls in developing nations kicked off at the Calgary Zoo Sunday.

In many cases, those in underdeveloped countries have to walk dozens of kilometeres to access food, water and health care.

Participants in the Calgary event will walk 5,000 steps to symbolize what they might have to walk to reach the nearest water well in their community.

“That’s what we’re walking for today. We’re walking 5,000 steps as a group of Calgarians to raise funds and awareness for those women who have less than we do,” organizer Leanne Zee said.

Money raised from the Calgary campaign will go to help women in Tanzania.
