Saskatoon may put in bid for Canadian Finals Rodeo

The City of Saskatoon says it’s contemplating a bid to bring the Canadian Finals Rodeo from Edmonton.

Todd Brandt, the CEO of Tourism Saskatoon, says the city would look at hosting the event next year and is working on a business plan for it.

The Canadian Professional Rodeo Association announced earlier this week that it has rejected a final bid from the City of Edmonton and the Oilers Entertainment Group to have the CFR in the Alberta capital beyond 2016.

The rodeo has been in Edmonton since 1974 and has drawn thousands of visitors annually.

The City of Calgary has said it’s also studying a possible bid.

In a news release it issued on Wednesday, the CPRA said its board of directors unanimously voted down a proposal last week submitted to it by the Oilers Entertainment Group and the City of Edmonton.

The CFR has been held in Edmonton for decades and is Canada’s largest indoor rodeo. The CPRA said it will continue to work with the City of Edmonton to ensure the 2016 CFR is a success.
