A shepherd cross is recovering from a shotgun wound to the face and shoulder. The dog, which has been named Remington, was found near Glaslyn, Sask. and was brought to the Battleford’s Humane Society on Wednesday.
Dr. Leo Perlinger, a vet at Lakeland Veterinary Service in North Battleford, is caring for the dog. He says despite Remington’s extensive wounds the dog arrived in surprisingly good spirits. Perlinger believes that because of infection, the year-and-a-half-old dog must have been on his own for a several days before being found.
Remington is expected to make a full recovery in the coming months before being put up for adoption by the Battleford’s Humane Society.

This isn’t the first shotgun wound to a dog in the Battlefords. In the three years Pelinger has worked at Lakeland Veterinary Service, this is the second shotgun wound he has worked on. He says that although Remington’s wounds are more extensive than the previous case, he expects the two to spend many happy years with a loving family.
The Battleford’s Humane Society is currently accepting donations to help cover the cost of Remington’s vet visits.
