Mounties are investigating an alarming discovery on a Nanaimo trail used by mountain bikers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Police say on Feb. 27, a local woman found wire strung at neck level and wooden jagged stakes in the ground on a logging road that accesses Barsby Lake, which is located about 13 kilometres from the Wakesiah Avenue intersection, along Nanaimo Lakes Road.
“These items could have caused serious injury to an unsuspecting mountain biker or someone on a dirt bike. There have been no other similar reports in that area so we are hoping it was a onetime incident,” said Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien.
The items have since been removed and the RCMP is investigating. No suspects have been identified.
Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP or call Crime Stoppers.
