UPDATE: Man charged after armed standoff in northwest Regina

REGINA – A 29-year-old man has been charged following an eight-hour armed standoff in northwest Regina that ended peacefully.

Police were called to the 400 block of Royal St. around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night to respond to a report of a man with a knife who had threatened to hurt someone.

A 43-year-old female was able to leave the house before police arrived. Once police got to the scene, they were able to persuade two other people to leave the house.

However, an adult female and five children between the ages of six months and five years were still in the residence.

The man refused to surrender himself to police and members of the Community Services Division and the Crisis Negotiator Team were called in to assist with the investigation.

The man finally surrendered himself to police around 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning. No one was injured during the incident.

David Joe Jerome, 29, is charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats and breach of undertaking. He made his first appearance in court on Thursday afternoon. His next appearance is March 10, and he remains in custody.
