A man has died as a result of a workplace accident at the J.D. Irving sawmill in Sussex, N.B., WorkSafeNB has confirmed.
In a news release, the government agency said the 50-year-old man sustained a head injury in the chipper building around 1:10 p.m. on Monday and later died in hospital.
The organization says they issued a stop-work order so the scene would not be disturbed and they are continuing to investigate.
WorkSafeNB will work to see whether the death could have been prevented and whether there were any occupational health and safety violations that contributed to the incident.
