PCs overturn Gill appointment, will hold Calgary Greenway nomination meeting

EDMONTON – Alberta’s Progressive Conservative party will hold a nomination meeting after all for an upcoming byelection in the riding of Calgary Greenway.

Party leader Ric McIver says the party’s board of directors has overturned a decision by the constituency board to appoint Prabhdeep Gill to be the party’s candidate in the March 22 vote.

McIver says the party got an ear full of criticism that suggested the decision to appoint a candidate was unfair and undemocratic.

McIver notes the Calgary Greenway board had to scramble to make a decision after Premier Rachel Notley dropped the writ on the byelection Monday.

Most of the opposition parties have yet to nominate candidates.
