KELOWNA, B.C. – Students around the Okanagan celebrated Pink Shirt Day, a nation-wide campaign to stop bullying.
St. Joseph Elementary School students held a stage-play, while Aberdeen Hall Preparatory School presented a concert at the Kelowna Community Theatre.
“If we all come together, we can prevent other kids from getting bullied,” one student told Global News.
Grade 5 teacher Kate Hopley taught her students to band together to prevent bullying.
“If one person is brave enough to stand up against the bully, then all the other bystanders will join in,” Hopley said. “Together we can do something about this.”
Some RCMP officers in the Okanagan dyed their uniform shirts pink for the day, “to let kids know there are people in the community, the police specifically, that they can come to,” said Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth. “Not just on February 24, but through out the year.”
The RCMP said parents should speak to their kids about bullying to ensure children aren’t silent victims.
