City gives multi-million dollar grant to music centre

A city committee has approved a $22.5 million dollar grant for the National Music Centre.

The funding means the project will likely break ground in October, and could possibly open in 2015.

The first phase will see the King Eddy finished along with the bottom two floors on the east side. The second phase will finish off the bridge and top three floors.

The centre’s CEO said being able to plan the ground-breaking is a huge momentum builder.

“At that point the project becomes real,” said Andrew Mosker. “When the shovel hits the ground suddenly this perception goes click in their mind, and they go oh my god they did it, it’s really going to happen.”

Council still needs to ratify the committee decision.
