REGINA – Elections Saskatchewan said it’s a big challenge every election finding enough people to work that one special day.
In a first of its kind initiative, the organization is asking any church or faith group, non-profit charity, or sports organizations to volunteer their time for one day, and donate their election pay-cheque to the charity of their choice.
“It challenging coming up with fundraising ideas as well these days”.
“We’re looking here at positioning this as you can double the difference you’re making in your community. You can work election day. And you can donate all of your election pay or part of it to the charity of your choice”, Elections Saskatchewan Spokesperson Tim Kydd said.

Any individual who works on election day can now choose to donate their full election day pay, or a portion of, to their preferred charity or cause.
Kydd is banking on the generous spirit of Saskatchewan, and he’s hopeful many workers will choose to donate.
“We can help out with the election, and make sure they’ve got enough volunteers that they need”.
“And the money that we raised, we turn around and use that for projects that go back into the community. So service clubs like Rotary and other non profits are always looking for good opportunities to do fundraising”, Regina Rotary Club’s Ken Thiessen explained.
Elections Saskatchewan said reception has been positive, and the new pilot program will allow residents a chance to give back to democracy.
