Missing northern Alberta man was murdered: RCMP

Randy Lopushinsky was last seen on Jan. 23, 2016.

Police have now determined that a missing man, last seen near Redwater, Alta. on Jan. 23, is the victim of a murder.

RCMP have not confirmed whether the body of 56-year-old Randy Lopushinsky has been found but issued a release on Saturday to say he was the victim of a homicide.

Lopushinsky’s blue, 2007 Ford Escape was found in a rural area northwest of Westlock on Jan. 30 and at that point the RCMP’s Serious Crimes Branch was brought in to help investigate what happened.

“We’re hoping that people (who) have seen him prior to disappearing can call us and let us know when they last saw him, what he was doing,” said Sgt. Jack Poitras with RCMP Media Relations.

Anyone who may have seen Lopushinsky or his vehicle after Jan. 23 is asked to call their local police detachment or the Redwater RCMP at 780-942-3600.

Redwater is about a one hour drive northeast of Edmonton while Westlock is about a 50 minute drive northwest of Redwater.
