Guadalajara is the second-largest and second most populous city in Mexico after Mexico City. The city itself is laid out like a cross. Guadalajara is located on the western side of the continent, about 543 kilometers east of Mexico City.

The population of Guadalajara is 1,564,514. The economy there mostly relies on commerce which employs 60 per cent of the population.

Guadalajara is governed by a municipal president who is in power for three consecutive years. The current president is Jorge Aristóteles Sandoval Díaz. The municipality has its own police force.
