WINNIPEG — The 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote in Manitoba was marked by several events throughout the city Thursday.  Former Prime Minister Kim Campbell spoke to grade eight to 12 students from across the province at the Manitoba Museum about the challenges woman in power still face today.

“She was really inspirational,” said Amy Halldorsson, a grade eight student from River Heights Middle School. “It was really nice to hear how she broke so many boundaries to get where she is now.”

Students toured the ‘Nice Women Don’t Want The Vote’ exhibit at the Manitoba Museum. Grade eight student Ian McLandress said it was shocking to see how men were fighting against woman to vote. “I think I’m going to tell my friends and my parents what I learned today.”

The students then toured the Women’s Rights exhibits at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights where they had more group discussions about what they’d learned and why this anniversary is so important.
