Call for tenders issued for Verdun Beach project

WATCH ABOVE: Debate over the Verdun beach.

MONTREAL – Verdun has issued a call for tenders to build a beach in Arthur-Therrien park, behind the Verdun Auditorium.

The new project would cost around $4.6 million and is slated to open for summer 2017.

Design teams will be required to make the urban beach a sustainable development project that will protect the local environment and wildlife.

The beach area will be able to accommodate 1,500 people; an embankment will be constructed to reduce the water current.

There will also be a swimming area for up to 500 people.

Urban landscaping firms have until Feb. 8 to submit a proposal.

Construction will begin in the summer.
