WINNIPEG — Multiple winter storms bring snow and the risk of freezing rain to southern Manitoba.
An Alberta Clipper is expected to track across the Prairies bringing 5-10 cm of snow and a risk of freezing rain. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of southern Saskatchewan as well as southwestern Manitoba to alert residents of the chance of freezing rain.
Freezing rain warnings could be issued later Tuesday as the system gets closer. Freezing rain warnings are issued when freezing rain is expected for at least 2 hours. While it seems more likely Saskatchewan will deal with freezing rain for longer periods of time, there is still a strong likelihood that southwestern Manitoba will deal with periods of freezing rain overnight and in the early morning hours.
Winnipeg will likely avoid the freezing rain and simply deal with light snow and strong winds.
Environment Canada issued the Special Weather Statement for these areas:
