WestJetters in Fredericton will soon be able to book more flights across Canada, as the airline is planning to expand its service from the New Brunswick city.

The company announced Monday that starting March 5, planes will fly to Toronto three times a day.

Mayor Brad Woodside said the expansion is good for the western portion of New Brunswick and the whole province.

“I want to thank WestJet for their vote of confidence in our region, as well as local residents for their continued use of the Fredericton International Airport,” he said in a statement.

Woodside added that this increased traffic should help make the case for the airport’s terminal expansion plan. The airport is currently working at 75 per cent over the capacity it was designed for.

Fredericton International Airport Authority has developed a plan for an expansion, however they’re still working to secure funding from the provincial and federal governments for the project.
