Three people were rushed to hospital Friday night after an SUV collided with several horses near Cochrane.

RCMP said officers were called to Highway 1A, about two kilometres west of the Ghost River Dam, at around 11 p.m.

They said a male passenger suffered life-threatening injuries while a female passenger suffered serious injuries. The female driver suffered non-life threatening injuries.

All three patients were taken to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.

Mounties said a Calgary police helicopter saw the crash occur and that alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Highway 1A was closed in both directions following the crash while police investigated.
