No injuries after Kelowna driver mistakes gas pedal for the brake

There were some scary moments at a Kelowna park on Friday afternoon.

At 12:30 p.m. at Ben Lee Park in Rutland, a van drove over a parking barrier before crashing into a tree and a picnic table.

In the vehicle was a female driver with three children. Fortunately no one was injured in the accident.

Police say it appears the driver mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes. No one was sitting at the picnic table at the time.

“We were very lucky,” said Constable Brent Wilson with the Kelowna RCMP. “It just ended up being property damage.”
