SASKATOON – A couple from Hague, Sask. is starting 2016 with an extra $5 million in their pocket. Darrell and Wendy Penner won the Jan. 13 Lotto 6-49 jackpot.
Darrell actually joked with about winning the lottery, before finding out he actually did.
“It’s really kind of funny that we won,” said Darrell. “We were talking to friends about there being a Saskatchewan winner after the draw, and I said, ‘I’m pretty sure I got this,’ as a joke!”

And when he did find out they won, he went to Wendy’s workplace to give her the good news.
“We had a moment in the hallway,” said Wendy. “I kind of lost it. I couldn’t believe it was happening to us.”

Darrell is a caretaker and Wendy was supposed to start a new job this week. As of now, the two are officially retired.
The couple, who have been married for 35 years, are still trying to adjust to the big win.
“(It’s) not really like us, it hasn’t sunk in yet,” said Wendy, “we’ve worked hard all our lives so now we’re going to enjoy it.”
They plan on spending some of the money travelling to Costa Rica and finishing renovations on their dream cabin.
