130 people forced from homes by wildfires in Saskatchewan can safely return home

Some rain and the efforts of firefighters have knocked back wildfires in west central Saskatchewan to the point where 130 people can safely return to their homes.

The people from the Onion Lake First Nation and in the Rural Municipality of Frenchman Butte were forced to flee yesterday because of the flames.

No homes were destroyed.

Reeve Bonnie Mills Midgley says these people have been told to be prepared to leave again at a moments notice if the wildfire conditions get worse.

Flames in the area are now considered to be under control, but crews and aircraft continue to attack hot spots.

A state of emergency and a fire ban remain in effect in the area until further notice.
