TORONTO — An unidentified Waterloo regional police officer has been charged in connection with an alleged “family-related” assault incident while off duty.
Police said the incident allegedly occurred on Friday night in Kitchener, Ont., but have not released the gender, age or name of the 11-year veteran of the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s North Division.
The officer has been charged with assault, mischief under $5,000 and three counts of uttering threats and is expected to appear in court in Kitchener on Feb. 4.
Police said the Waterloo Regional Police Service Professional Standards Branch will also be conducting a review of the circumstances.
As the investigation is ongoing, the officer has been suspended with pay in accordance with the requirements of the Police Services Act of Ontario.
Police said that due to the fact that the incident is “family-related,” no other details will be released to avoid identifying the victim.
