A cougar that killed two pet dogs and a cat in the community of Hope over the past week has been destroyed.
Conservation Officer Don Stahl says his office had received dozens of calls about a cougar on the edge of town in the Kawkawa Lake area.
On January 13, the animal approached a woman hiking on the popular Kettle Valley Trail, but she scared it off.

On January 16, the cougar was on a residential property and went after a dog, but another dog on the property rushed in and the cougar ran off.
On January 17, the animal was on a Park Ave. property around 5:30 p.m., where it attacked and killed a Blue Heeler.
Finally, on January 18, it killed a cat and took it back to the same property where it killed the Blue Heeler – and later that night was back in the Park Avenue area where it killed a small black dog.
Police were able to cordon off the location, and a conservation Officer arrived and destroyed the cougar.
Stahl says the predatory and aggressive nature of the young male cougar did not make it suitable to be tranquilized and moved.
He adds there are a lot of young families in the neighbourhood and it is fortunate the cougar did not attack a child.
