EDMONTON – More than $1.3 million was raised for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation during the Corus Radiothon over the past two days.
The 17th annual radiothon was held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Stollery. Young patients and their families spent the time sharing their personal stories to help inspire the community to donate money to the cause.
On Wednesday evening, the fundraising total was unveiled at a whopping $1,334,381, with more money coming in.
Earlier this week, the director of marketing and communications for the Stollery said he was worried the weakened economy might have an impact on this year’s fundraising goal, which was $1.4 million.
“We do realize that during hard economic times it definitely impacts our ability to fundraise, but doesn’t change the fact that children’s health really does require continued investment.
“The hospital right now is feeling the pinch in terms of space and constraint and ability to function,” Schuldhaus said.
Over the last 16 years, the Corus Radiothon has raised more than $18.5 million.
