EDMONTON – Police believe speed was a factor in a fatal crash in south Edmonton Monday morning.

It appears a vehicle rolled over before colliding with a pole in the median between Calgary Trail and Gateway Boulevard near Ellerslie Road at around 6:30 a.m.

Witnesses told police it appeared the vehicle lost control after trying to pass another vehicle on Calgary Trail.

While the investigation is ongoing, Edmonton police are reminding drivers to slow down.

“This particular vehicle had snow tires on it,” Scott Pattison said. “So, even though it appears this motorist took some great precautionary steps given the weather that we have here, it’s always best to take your time when… travelling during the winter months.”

The driver, whose identity hasn’t be released, died on the scene.
