Prepare for heavy snow if you’re driving the Coquihalla

Expect heavy snow if you’re heading out on the Coquihalla Highway.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning with upwards of 20-25 centimeters forecast to fall throughout the day and overnight.

“The snow will begin this morning and then become heavy at times by this evening,” according to the Environment Canada warning. “The snow is forecast to end by Wednesday morning as the frontal system moves out of the area.”

Other southern interior highways are also expecting snowfall. Highway 3 is forecast to receive 10 centimeters on the Allison Pass and 10-15 centimeters between the Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass, the Trans Canada between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass slated for 10-15 centimeters and the Okanagan Connector expecting 2-4 centimeters.

If you’re planning on heading out on Highway 3, the Kootenay Pass will be closed 30 kilometers west of Creston for 27 kilometers between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. for avalanche control. A detour is in place.
