For Doug Hoyer, David Bowie was more than a musician; he was an artist and an inspiration.
“I found David Bowie had a really brilliant ability to blend accessibility with experimentation,” Hoyer said.

The indie pop singer/songwriter is originally from Edmonton but now lives in Georgia. His wife broke the news about Bowie’s death to him early Monday morning. He became quite emotional sharing that conversation with Global News.
Hoyer covered a number of Bowie songs and even performed Let’s Dance at a David Bowie cover night at Edmonton’s Wunderbar.
“It was just such a treat to be able to play these fun, danceable songs that were still mysterious.”
The biggest message Hoyer has taken from Bowie’s legacy?
“You can always get better and you can always change and grow as an artist and as a person.”
Bowie turned 69 on Friday, the same day he released a new album called Blackstar.
“He’ll be missed,” Hoyer said.
