The RCMP arrested and charged a 31-year-old Edmonton man with first-degree murder nearly five years after another man’s body was found near Mundare, Alta.
On Feb. 1, 2011, the body of 53-year-old Ronald Max Hillinger was found on the side of a road in a rural area approximately 10 kilometres southwest of Mundare.
RCMP determined Hillinger, of Edmonton, was the victim of a homicide.
On Monday, nearly five years after the discovery, the RCMP Historical homicide Unit arrested Riley Matthew Pearson, 31. He has been charged with one count of first-degree murder in relation to Hillinger’s death.
Pearson and Hillinger knew each other, RCMP said.
No other details were released. The case is now before the provincial court.
