Hold and secure mode lifted at Balfour and Miller after online threat

REGINA – The hold and secure mode at Balfour Collegiate and Miller High School has been lifted after an online threat was made by a 17-year-old teen.

Police currently have the 17-year-old boy in custody and charges could be pending.

Terry Lazarou from Regina Public Schools says that the school board and Regina Police learned about the online threat and decided to put the school in a secure the building mode for the safety of the students.

Regina Police later added that it was a student at Balfour Collegiate who had received a possible threat through social media.

As a precaution, Regina Police also instructed Miller High School to go into ‘secure the building’ mode.

In secure mode the doors to the school are locked and no one can go in or out of the building without supervision.

Regina Police are still investigating the situation and anyone with information is asked to call police at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
