1 child dies, 4 people injured in northern Alberta crash

EDMONTON – A child died and four other people were injured, including three children, during a collision between a truck and semi trailer in northern Alberta.

The collision happened at about 6:00 p.m. Friday near the community of Nampa at the intersection of Highway 2 and Township Rd. 810.

The pickup didn’t stop at a stop sign as it entered the intersection and collided with the semi, RCMP said.

A 34-year-old woman and three children, all under seven years old, were taken to hospital.

The woman was in serious condition, while the three children suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the semi wasn’t injured.

The Peace Regional RCMP is investigating the fatal collision.

“Fog and the stop sign appear to have played roles in this collision,” RCMP said.

The identity of the child killed in the crash hasn’t been released.

Nanton is 460 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
