WINNIPEG — It has nearly been a century since the work of the women’s suffrage movement brought a civil right milestone to Manitoba.

The prairie province became the first in Canada to allow women the right to vote in, run for and hold elected provincial office on January 28, 1916.

To commemorate the upcoming 100th anniversary, the Archives of Manitoba and the Manitoba Legislative Library is holding an open house showing original records, documents, newspapers and correspondence, detailing the work  of the suffrage movement.
