A 27-year-old Toronto man wanted in connection to two downtown area robberies allegedly tried to disarm a police officer during his arrest this week.
Police say officers on patrol spotted the suspect on Jan. 3 at 5 p.m. when the accused resisted arrest and attempted to disarm one of them.
Officers managed to subdue the man and place him under arrest.
Jesse Iker was subsequently charged with a number of offences including two counts of robbery, disguise with intent, two counts of assault police officer and attempt to disarm peace officer.
Police say the accused, armed with a gun, robbed a bank on Yonge Street and Gerrard Street on Jan. 2 just before 10 a.m. and followed that up hours later by stealing a tip jar at a restaurant in the Yonge Street and Wellesley Street area at 5:35 p.m.
The suspect made a court appearance on Monday.
