“They were met by one occupant, who was subsequently taken to hospital and they fought the fire, which was contained to the stairwell in the unit. The place should be habitable again later today,” said Calgary Fire Department Acting district chief, Martin Keefe. “They did a great aggressive job of getting a hold of the fire and putting it out.”
“I believe there was some renovation work going on that resulted in the fire, but that is under investigation,” said acting district chief Keefe.
No word yet on what caused the fire, officials continue to investigate.
As a precaution, officials checked the adjacent units and ventilated them to make sure it is completely habitable.
