It’s a boy!

The first baby of the new year in B.C. is a boy, Grayson Heinrich Jackson, and was born in the Lower Mainland.

The province announced on Twitter that the baby boy was born at 12:15 a.m. at Surrey Memorial Hospital weighing eight pounds and nine ounces.

The parents, Naomi Vosshans and Ryan Jackson were all smiles as they greeted the media on New Year’s Day morning.

This is the first baby for the couple, who live in Fort Nelson.

“We came down and stayed with my parents because in Fort Nelson, they don’t deliver babies,” Ryan said.

The first babies born in the Interior Health Authority (IHA) region in 2016 were in Kamloops.
