Northern Alberta highway reopened after 7 vehicle crash, hazardous spill

Highway 43 was closed for several hours Monday night and Tuesday morning after a collision involving seven vehicles west of Fox Creek, Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015.

EDMONTON – A highway in northern Alberta was reopened Tuesday morning after a seven vehicle collision shut it down over night.

Three large trucks and four passenger trucks were involved in a crash Monday night on Highway 43, two kilometres west of Fox Creek.

Several people were treated for minor injuries and were released.

A hazardous substance was also spilled on the road during the crash, which caused the highway to be closed as crews cleaned up the material and the vehicles were removed.

At 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, a single lane of Highway 43 was open.

The cause of the collision is being investigated.
