Man charged after reportedly lighting Salmon Arm home on fire, locking himself inside

SALMON ARM: A man in his mid 40’s who, according to Salmon Arm RCMP, locked himself inside a home and set the place on fire, has been criminally charged.

Adolf Albert Edward Hemmerling is facing charges of arson damaging property and uttering threats. These charges come after an incident on Sunday, December 20.

RCMP say Hemmerling stayed inside a home in the Eagle Bay area, threatening to harm himself and police and refusing to comply with police instructions to come out of the home.

Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says Hemmerling smashed out out several windows of the home before setting it on fire. Moskaluk says officers tried many times to pull the uncooperative man from the blaze and eventually were able to when he tried to crawl out of a small window.

The residence was gutted by the flames and a neighbouring home was evacuated during the incident as a precaution.
