Spring has officially sprung at the Greater Vancouver Zoo in Aldergrove, with the arrival of several babies.
Early Thursday morning Zebra mother Sahara and father Sierra welcomed their first foal. However, because the foal was not successful nursing from its mother right away it did not get any colostrum. Jody Henderson, general manager of the zoo said staff have now taken over regular bottle feedings every few hours.

The still unnamed foal is about 3′ tall, and weighs about 70 pounds.
He is still not on display to the public, and he doesn’t have much of an immune system, so the zoo is working hard to bring his health up.
Thursday morning remained busy as Squirrel Monkey mother MJ delivered a new baby.
This was followed by Squirrel Monkey Shyllo giving birth to a new baby on Friday.
Henderson said both mothers and babies are doing well, and as Squirrel Monkey babies do not leave their mother’s body, they are estimated to weigh between three and seven ounces.
Not to be outdone, the North American Muskox mothers Fluffy and Maisie both delivered healthy calves on Friday and Saturday.
Henderson said the babies are about 1.5′ in height and weigh 20 pounds.
