Door to door UNICEF scam

RCMP are warning people about a door-to-door credit card scam in the Okanagan.

Police say about a dozen people had their credit or debit cards compromised by two men pretending to be canvassing for UNICEF on behalf of Starbucks.

The men are carrying portable credit card machines believed to be capable of capturing the victim’s financial information including their PIN.

Most of the incidents have happened in Penticton but it’s believed the men have now come into Kelowna.

Police say thousands of dollars have already been taken.

The first suspect is described as in his late 20’s, dark skinned, with a medium build and shaved head.

The second man is described as caucasian and about 30 years old.

Police believe they know who the two men are and are asking anyone with information to contact RCMP.
