KELOWNA – A Kelowna family’s holiday plans came to a screeching halt Saturday morning. They were on their way out of town when they got a call from a neighbour alerting them there was a fire at their house.
The Kelowna Fire Department received several calls about a vehicle on fire in a driveway shortly before 8 a.m.
“The first arriving crews say the vehicle was fully involved. It was a quick knock-down,” says Platoon Captain John Kelly.
The flames engulfed the SUV, which was parked in the driveway and spread to the garage of the home in the 700-block of Kuipers Crescent.
“The vehicle is probably a write-off. The majority of the damage to the garage is to the front end. It’s mainly exterior damage and it didn’t get into the interior,” says Kelly.
Kelly says fire crews had to cut the garage door to gain access and make sure the fire hadn’t spread.
No one was injured during the incident and foul play is not suspected.
A fire investigator is on scene.
