Montreal to say good-bye to free weekly paper ‘Hour’

MONTREAL – Montreal alternative weekly Hour Community is being shut down, its editor confirmed Wednesday night. Its last issue comes out Thursday.

The 18-year-old publication, originally called Hour, was renamed in April 2011 after a staff purge that left the paper much thinner than its competitor, the Mirror, with only a handful of articles a week.

“We gave it our all,” editor Kevin Laforest posted on Twitter late Wednesday. “I guess there’s just no room for two anglo weeklies in Montreal.”

Communications Voir could not be immediately reached for comment.
