Police believe the westbound SUV lost control and crossed the centre line before colliding head-on with a semi truck.

The woman – who is approximately 70 years old and from Stony Plain – was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP said the driver of the semi truck suffered minor injuries.

Mounties said all access to Highway 19 from Highway 2 was closed and drivers were being asked to avoid the area.
