RiverRock claims to file bankruptcy, but no record yet

Over one month ago, RiverRock snow removal said they were declaring bankruptcy, but weeks later, there is still no record of it.

Last month Tim Wood, owner of RiverRock snow removal, told Global News he wouldn’t be operating his snow removal business this coming winter.

“The contracts are not coming in. I don’t even have a third of what I had last year,” Wood said. “I have maybe 70 – 60 clients right now and it takes a minimum of 130 contracts to get a tractor.”

So he announced to his clients on Facebook that he would be declaring bankruptcy. But before he did, he cashed the first round of cheques.

“I felt used, he actually cashed our money, we’re probably not going to see it again,” said Melissa Piperno, a former client. “It’s disappointing.”

Since Wood’s company is not incorporated, if he is filing for bankruptcy, he should be filing under his own personal name. In the last 30 days, we’ve done multiple searches with the superintendent of bankruptcy and they’ve all come up blank.

“If the person doesn’t file for bankruptcy they can still sue him for the money that is owed if the person hasn’t provided the services,” said Sylvie De Bellfeuille, option consommateur lawyer.

Wood also operates a landscaping business. After he announced he was going bankrupt, he said he would credit his clients in lawn services.

“I actually sent him an email when I found out he was declaring bankruptcy and I still haven’t heard back from him yet,” Piperno said.

We weren’t able to speak to Wood in person, but we were able to reach him on the phone. He told us he has filed for bankruptcy.

“I’m waiting to pass in front of a judge,” he said. “It could take up to three months to see a judge.”

We tried asking him other questions, but he didn’t want to respond.

“I’m waiting to pass in front a judge, that’s all I have to say,” he said.
