SASKATOON – Changes are coming to Saskatoon’s ward boundaries. A growing population means the city will need to redraw the boundaries before the next municipal election.
Under current provincial legislation, Saskatoon’s 10 wards must each have, as near as possible, the same size population, with no more than a 10 per cent variation.
Wards 4 and 7 now exceed the variation limit, while Ward 9 has fallen below the limit.

A municipal wards commission has been established to hold two consultations into the drawing of the new ward boundaries.
Factors that will be taken into consideration are current and prospective geographic conditions, density and relative growth of the population and any special diversity or community of interest.

The first public consultation takes place Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT in committee room “E” at city hall.
While officials say oral presentations can be made at the meeting, they would prefer written submissions be emailed to city.clerks@saskatoon.ca.
Once new ward boundaries have been drafted, a second public meeting will be held prior to a final decision being made.
The next municipal and school board elections will be held on Oct. 26, 2016.
