LAVAL — Talar Tejirian loves to bake. She bakes cookies. She bakes cupcakes. She even makes up her own recipes.
“My favourite is probably my banana oreo cake,” she said. “I took a banana recipe and added oreos.”
She raised $1,000 over the course of three summers for the Ste. Justine Hospital in Montreal, an idea she had after she learned to bake.
She spent Christmas Eve in the hospital with a medical condition when she was five. She received a Christmas gift then, and it inspired her to buy 50 toys for girls and boys.
Her family organized a drop-off with the hospital for Dec. 7. And that’s when, according to them, the let-down happened. They said the first sign of trouble occurred when they came laiden with gifts and no one met them at the hospital door.

“We went there at 10:30 and nobody was there,” said Vahe Tejirian, the girl’s father. “She was not even in the office.”
About 15 minutes later someone did come down to meet them, but then told them to put the presents in a trolley and store them in a closet on the ninth floor, according to the girl’s mother, Theresa Tejirian.
“It was an in-and-out type of thing,” she said.
“I felt like her donation wasn’t appreciated.”
The hospital wouldn’t agree to an interview with Global News. But in an email, a spokesperson admitted that a hospital official was late, but that she thanked the girl profusely.
But the family still has a sour taste in their mouths.
“We got a handshake and a thank you,” the girl said. “That’s it.”
