City, union agree on payment for illegal Saskatoon Transit lockout

SASKATOON – Transit workers are getting a $651,000 payout from the City of Saskatoon. The money is compensation for the two weeks they were illegally locked-out in the fall of 2014.

The lockout happened following a deadlock in contract talks. The Labour Relations Board later ruled some of the lockout was illegal.

On Thursday, city officials announced it had reached settlement with Amalgamated Transit Union Local 615.

It’s expected affected staff will receive their payment by mid-Febraury.

The two sides have still not reached a deal on a new contract. Transit workers have been without a contract since December 2012.
